Carolina Beach is part of "Pleasure Island." Pleasure Island is made up of 3 beaches. Carolina Beach is the northern end, Ft. Fisher is the southern end, and Kure Beach is between the two. Carolina Beach was first but Kure Beach came close behind. While Carolina Beach experienced a building boom in the mid 1980's, Kure Beach has had a more recent facelift. On Kure Beach new homes replaced older homes. There have been no condominiums to speak of but on Carolina Beach condominiums replaced older homes. Fort Fisher will never see development since there is an old Civil War Fort there.
