Kure Beach, NC

Kure (pronounced CURE-ee) Beach is situated between Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher on Pleasure Island.  Kure Beach is a little more upscale than neighboring Carolina Beach.  There are a lot of new construction homes on and near the waterfront.  There are eight public beach accesses all with free parking.  You can stroll along the 1/3 mile long boardwalk, relax on one of many ocean front benches and swings at the beautiful Ocean Front Park , or take a walk on the oldest pier on the Atlantic coastline.  It was built in 1923 and is 711 feet long.  Admission is free for walking.   Parking is free at the center of town and restaurants and local business are all within walking distance.  There is a year-round population of 2000 residents and it jumps to 5500 during the tourist season.  Kure Beach has a quieter lifestyle than Carolina Beach on its northern border which is just a 5 minute drive away so all of the amenities of Carolina Beach are close at hand.   To the south is Fort Fisher and the Civil War memorial along with the NC Aquarium, voted one of the best in the country.  There is also a public beach access for four wheel drive vehicles.  You will need to get a pass but you can drive on the beach and enjoy a more secluded location.  Kure Beach, NC has a family friendly atmosphere where “getting away from it all” is the order of business.
