Wrightsville Beach, New Hanover NC is an active place. Home to water sports galore it is sure to please the go-getter. Whether its surfing, stand up paddle boarding, boating, fishing, or even kite flying Wrightsville Beach, NC has it all. Crossing the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway immediately puts you into beach mode. Restaurants and local shops line the street leading to the beach. Cross another bridge and you are on what is actually an island. Here you will see runners, walkers, and skaters doing “the loop.” John Nesbitt Loop is a 2.45 mile loop around the island and is very popular year round. It begins at Causeway Drive/U.S. Hwy. 76, wraps around North Lumina Drive, takes a turn along Salisbury Street/U.S. Hwy. 74 over Banks Channel and then connects back to Causeway Drive/U.S. Hwy. 76. It’s a great place to see the action on the main drag and don’t forget to bring your dog! There is ample parking along the route.

If you’re coming by boat there are many marinas to rest and refresh. One such place is the Wrightsville Beach Marina. Located just south of the draw bridge on the eastern shore of the Intracoastal Waterway, this is a luxurious place to dock for the night. The marina offers power, water, telephone service, cable tv, internet connections, fuel and mechanical repairs. There is even a pool. You can eat at the Bluewater Grill which overlooks this marina.

If you are bringing your own boat you can put in at the NC Wildlife public boat ramp. It is located on the north side of the draw bridge. With room for over 50 truck and trailers this popular boat ramp fills up in the season by early morning. So come early.

If you are looking for a place to live be sure to check out Harbor Island. Located between the Intracoastal Waterway and Banks Channel this is a highly sought after location. Streets are lined with maritime oaks and picket fences and coastal cottages in a varying budget. Inner Island homes can go for as little at $400,000 with waterfront homes going for as much as $3 million. Natural deep water allows for large boats in your private slip. Harbor Island is just a short walk or bike ride from the beach so you get the best a bustling beach town can offer and the seclusion of a private island.
